Mourning doves are ground feeders and when not nesting they tend to spend a lot of time on the ground. Diamond doves are said to be the most popular species of dove in aviculture around the world and their ease of keeping and breeding is the main reason for this.
Diamond Doves The Littlest Dove Pets4homes
Although I have heard of people living in the coldest parts of the US keeping them without heat outside.

Can diamond doves live alone. They also do well inside and are best kept in pairs. How to tame yours down be. Pigeons and doves are flock birds and to be outside alone is stressful and lonesome.
The Diamond Dove is a very friendly bird with a gentle demeanor making it a good pet choice for just about anyone. Male Diamond Doves can be enthusiastic suitors and having an area where the female can get away from the male temporarily seems to ease her stress when her man is in an amorous mood Glass Ashtrays We have found that although the parakeet bird baths work great for seed we also have 2 small glass ashtrays in each cage. Diamond Doves are generally hardy and easy to keep.
Shes usually allowed out of the cage but my cats sitting with me. They should be provided a mate or be placed in a communal flight aviary with other non-aggressive birds. I have found that they do turn eventually and stop the plucking and then life settles down.
Although best results are had if they are gradually habituated to it. They can tolerate frost and freezes for short periods only. But 40 F shouldnt be a concern.
Diamonds may even bath if give the chance few doves do this. Sometimes due to their placid nature they can be plucked for nesting material by other more confident birds such as zebra finch or canaries. Pigeons and doves do great indoors as family pets.
The Diamond Dove is one of the smallest of the Australian doves weighing less than an ounce 23 to 27 grams. This species can be raised or kept well in captivity. They can live up to fifteen years in captivity with an average life expectancy of ten years.
Diamond doves will live happily with other birds in a large cage or mixed aviary. Easy to pair and handle diamond doves are suitable for beginning hobbyists and bird lovers. They can also live outside in a predator rodent-proof aviary but I would never make a single bird live outside alone.
A single pigeon or dove living indoors adopts the people as flock members. They rarely get sick and can be kept with other small peaceful birds such as finches. Their internal body temperature is up around 107-110 F and they are good at finding shelter from wind and rain.
It could be having problems or perhaps it just wants to be alone. Since Diamond Doves have very long tails I prefer to use the plastic canary nests which fit into a nest extender The extender not only keeps the nest very level and secure but allows the Diamond Doves to nest more comfortably with their long tails. These social birds should not be kept alone.
Ringnecks and diamond doves can be kept as pets in a variety of ways. My 2 years old male Diamond Dove cooing while perching on my finger. Hes gotten a lot better being around me.
Some species do but ringnecks dont and diamond doves I suppose it depends on where you live and what your loft is like. Just make sure they can get away from the wind and have plenty of protien and carbs to keep weight on them. Although these small birds are kept in aviaries a large cage having 04 inches of bar spacing can be used.
They can be kept in cages though ones around 2 feet square would be the recommended minimum they are prone to night frights and if there isnt enough room they can cause themselves quite serious damage. Canary nests can come in a variety of sizes and I prefer the largest ones widest and deepest. And if they dont bond strongly as a pair they still might be friends kept in separate cages that can get along together when getting free flight time.
They can be a single bird bonded to its owner with or without free flight within the home or they can be a breeding pair bonded to one another producing young. It is very important that your doves cage is big enough to where it can fly around unobstructed. Diamond doves are quite cold hearty and tolerate below-freezing temperatures well if they have a dry shelter.
If they really like each other they will probably eventually go back to one their cages together. I do not feed them any live food and I do not believe they need it. In cold climates Diamond Doves should be kept reasonably warm.
They occasionally will eat chopped greens. These birds need a balanced diet that consists of high-quality seed mixes fruits and greens. And they usually breed well in captivity.
My other dove cooing.
